Design & technology/Food technology

Making Irish foods, as part of Food technology, is a most popular way of meeting the requirements of the curriculum.

Soda bread and apple cake are the favourites - and in one school Irish breakfasts - but the most ambitious undertaking was the Irish stew
prepared by the Nursery children at St Cleopas CE Primary School in Liverpool.

Favourite D&T activities include

  • making badges and designing T-shirts to commemorate the school’s Irish week;
  • investigating Irish textiles, such as Aran sweaters and Donegal tweeds;
  • building St Brendan’s boat and thatched cottages; and
  • making a dancing leprechaun.
